May, June, July courses at A Rich Experience, NW Tucson

Name: Energy Work Demystified

Dates/Times:  Sunday, May 23, 2010, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm (one hour break for lunch)

Cost/Credit: $100.00, 5 CE hours

Course Description: Animals and plants sense energy to see the Earth's magnetism, to sense danger and opportunity, to influence and heal. Physics proves solid bodies are made of energy and literally floating in endless oceans of energy. We will use hands 12-inches above so there is no confusing the effects of body heat or static electricity. You will practice scanning two partners, and sending energy into needed areas. Listening to your partner's feedback jumps your skill light-years ahead. Then it is your turn to receive. Great for beginners as well as experts who want to brush up on their scanning and beaming.

Cost/Credit: $120.00, 6 CE hr

Course Description:

Healing is more about responding than technique. Your influence increases when you ask good questions and tailor your treatment to her answers. We will practice with partners; 1) innovative intake questions, 2) massaging a tight muscle with feedback looping, and 3) finishing questions that anchor her awareness of her changes.  Then it is time to listen to your partner's feedback of how your questions made her feel. Repeating this process with at least two partners accelerates your listening and tailoring skills. You will receive a list of good questions that challenge and inspire the recipient to move forward.

Cost/Credit: $120.00, 6 CE hr.

Course Description:

A group discussion workshop in the compassionate-yet-challenging-question style of Plato. What is the definition of Natural? What is Holistic? How do we define Healing? Philosophy (literally, "love of knowledge") is not intended to tell you the "right" answers but to help you discover for yourself what is even more natural, what is even more holistic, what is even more healing. Learn how your definitions, expectations and beliefs about natural healing influence a) how far people are willing to heal, b) which people are drawn to your practice, and  c) the resolution of your personal challenges as a healing professional.

Instructor Biography:

Patrick first studied Philosophy at Whitman College in 1983 and continues to study Plato and the neo-platonists, Giordano Bruno, and the philosophical works of Benjamin Franklin and Edgar Poe. Patrick studied buddhism as a philosophy and form of natural and holistic relief of suffering. June 22, 2010; Standing Wave Jostling; 5 hr; Movement and Exercise Therapies (MET), Tuesday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Name: Standing Wave Jostling

Dates/Times:  Tuesday, June 22, 2010, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm (one hour break for lunch)

Cost/Credit: $100.00, 5 CE hrs.

Course Description:

Jostling is far simpler once you understand the rhythms of each part of the body. Jostling rolls limbs through a short range of motion in a cycle, and if the person's proprioceptors feel safe, the jostling helps to release guarding at that joint. Jostling is like music. Each joint has its own comfortable frequency range and this is different person to person, and may be different on the person's left and right sides. You will practice with ropes making a standing wave, in first and second overtones. We will jostle legs in hip rotation, shoulders in rotation, and the spine in rotation and sidebending. You will learn from your partner's feedback what helped her relax and feel safe and what brought up her guard. Lots of hands-on and table work. You will make music with limbs and joints as your instrument.

Instructor Biography:

In college Patrick studied music theory, wave physics, dance and was keyboard player in a reggae band. Patrick learned Trager in 1994 and has been a independent CE instructor since 2002. On Facebook and longer bio at  www.meltingmuscles.com

Dates/Times:  Thursday, July 8, 2010, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (one hour break for lunch)

Cost/Credit: $140.00, 7 CE hrs.

Course Description:

Muscles feel safe to relax when they are held in a shortened position. You will learn a new way to palpate muscles with one hand while your other hand nudges the limb into a shorter position. In this position, you quickly feel the muscle melt and soften. This melting is so dramatic that the recipients can feel it melt, which gives them a sense they are making good progress. The supine day covers levator/upper traps, pec minor, neck sidebenders, biceps, wrist extensors, thumb opposers, psoas, TFL, quads, tibs, and intrinsic toe flexors. Not intended to cover all muscles in a full-body massage, just those that have not been given enough training in your previous massage education. Includes both light and deep work.

After 8 years, Patrick's book Melting Muscles is almost finished. To celebrate the book's completion, each registrant will receive a PDF version of the 100+ page book as an email attachment. The book covers theory, supine and prone massage, and atlas/ axis treatment, with several high-resolution b/w photographs on each page.

Instructor Biography:

Patrick first published Melting Muscles as an article in Massage & Bodywork in 2002, followed by Treating the Atlanto-Axial Joint With Cranial Motion in Massage Therapy Journal in 2003. Since then he has taught the method to 700+ graduates in twenty US cities from Baltimore to Juneau. On Facebook and longer bio at  www.meltingmuscles.com

Name: Low Acceleration, High Feedback Stretching

Dates/Times:  (later july, when works for you?)…,10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Cost/Credit: 4 hr

Course Description: An accelerated course covering Muscle Energy Technique and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation. These are fancy-sounding names for what is better called, "Hold-Relax Stretching." You may have learned this before but the key to making it work is your sensitivity to the "easy motion barrier." If you accidentally cross this barrier even once, the person's brain will no longer sense you as "safe" and you'll have no more luck lengthening his muscles. The remedy for this is practicing sensing the "easy" or "pathological" motion barrier. We will practice with partners to lengthen shoulder rotators, hip rotators, and any other muscle group you are interested in lengthening.

Instructor Biography:  Watching the magic of a muscle energy technique session, given by Physical Therapist Randy Nakasone in 1992 inspired Patrick to become a massage therapist. Patrick began taking CE courses in MET before his massage school year was finished. By 1995 he had completed 120 hours of MET training with Rich Phaigh including a one-week observation of Rich in his practice in Eugene, Oregon. Patrick used MET as a medical massage preferred provider in Seattle 1994-99. On Facebook and longer bio at  www.meltingmuscles.com

Prerequisites:  none

Preparation:  Please wear loose or stretchy clothing so that you may be stretched by your partner. Please bring one bottom sheet for a massage table. We will be lying on massage tables but not disrobing.

Name: Holistic Treatment Plans

Dates/Times:  (..was postponed.. can repeat anytime between now and…?), 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Cost/Credit: $80.00 4 CE hr

Course Description: Creating a plan includes asking good questions to find out what the recipient wants different, discussing realistic expectations, and choosing approaches that you think will complete the goal. The plan also includes the recipient's reply to this question: "How will you know when your goal has been reached?" We will practice interviewing partners, taking notes and writing treatment plans for their real ailments. Written plans help just as much, or more, for therapists who consider themselves holistic, and for recipients who seek natural healing. Written plans help the recipient to be engaged in his own healing, from the design of his plan to its steps, his assessment of progress and completion. Written plans help the giver to observe and assist his progress without personal attachment.

Instructor Biography:  Patrick was a medical massage therapist in Seattle 1994-99, writing treatment plans as a preferred provider for Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Patrick has been a CE provider and author since 2002. longer bio at  www.meltingmuscles.com

I understand about the expense. When I teach at my home office I can offer half price for those who do not need the certificate, but only want the training. I have two courses coming up in July at my home office.
